As Midwives we work in partnership with women and their families to give them the necessary support, care and advice they need when it comes to their reproductive health. This includes all ‘well woman’ care prior to pregnancy, during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum periods, as well as care for the newborn for up to six weeks after the birth. As Midwives we are able to support women through all cycles of life. We provide women and their families the necessary information they need to make informed choices about their health and the health of their baby.
We understand, promote, have faith in, and facilitate the physiological processes of pregnancy and childbirth. Through regular assessments we are able to identify complications that may arise with the mother and baby, access appropriate medical assistance, and implement emergency measures as necessary. When women require a referral I provide midwifery care in collaboration with other health professionals.
At Mother Earth Midwifery We Can Provide the Following:

Prenatal Care Includes the Following:
Initial registration appointment, 1.5-3 hours
Prenatal appointments thereafter are 1 hour long. The frequency of the prenatal appointments is as follows:
- once a month until 28 weeks
- twice a month from 28 to 36 weeks
- once a week from 36 to 41 weeks, and as needed from 41 weeks until birth.
Prenatal education, labor & birth preparation, breastfeeding information, and newborn care will all be covered during prenatal visits.
Ongoing assessments will be made at each appointment to ensure that the mother and her growing baby remain within the range of a normal healthy pregnancy. The 36-week appointment will be in the client’s home. All other appointments will take place in the Midwife’s home or office.
Labor & Birth:
Each Mother, along with her network of support will develop a birth plan prior to 36 weeks. This will allow everyone who will be attending the birth to be on the same page when she does go into labor.
Regular communication will be established and maintained between the clients and the Midwives once labor begins. Each labor and birth will require their own individual recipe of support depending on the needs of the birthing mother and her family.
In general the Midwives will remain at the intended place of birth once “active labor” has been established. Guidance and support for the Mother, and her family, will be provided throughout this process. Continuous maternal and fetal monitoring will be provided throughout the labor, birth and immediate postpartum.
Midwives will remain at the place of birth for a minimum of three hours postpartum. During this time mother and baby will be monitored to make sure they are both making a smooth and healthy transition.
Postpartum Care Includes the Following:
Postpartum care will insure that the mom and baby remain healthy in the six weeks following the birth. Midwives will help mom and baby establish healthy breastfeeding patterns from day one. The Midwife will provide well baby care until six weeks postpartum, after that the baby will need to be seen by a family doctor or a pediatrician.
All mothers that wish to continue “Well Woman Care” with their Midwife may do so after their six weeks of postpartum care.
All appointments prior to 10 days old may be attended at the place of birth or in the client’s home. All appointments after 10 days old may be attended at the midwife’s home or office
Physician consultation, hospital care, laboratory &/or ultrasounds fees are not included in our services. All referrals will be made as needed. Any mother or newborn who is found to be outside the range of normal will be referred immediately to the appropriate care provider.
